Edinboro University’s online graduate programs in nursing and education are ranked by U.S. News & World Report as among the best in the nation.
Edinboro's graduate nursing programs, offered in consortium with Clarion University, are ranked 21st in the country in U.S. News & World Report’s Best Online Graduate Nursing Programs. The rankings are based on faculty credentials and training, student services and technology, student engagement and admissions selectivity.
The programs, which include the Master of Science in Nursing with a concentration area in family nurse practitioner and the new Doctor of Nursing Practice, place an emphasis on meeting a regional shortage of primary health care providers.
The University's graduate education programs also earned top-tier ranking based on statistical information about admissions selectivity, student engagement, faculty credentials and training, and student services and technology. EU presently offers seven online master’s degree programs in education: Master of Art in Art Education, Master of Education in Early Childhood Education, Master of Education in Educational Leadership, Master of Education in Educational Psychology, Master of Education in Middle & Secondary Instruction, Master of Education in Reading, and Master of Education in Special Education.
Additional U.S. News & World Report recognition for EU includes Best Graduate Schools ranking for programs in Rehabilitation Counseling (#53), Fine Arts (#157) and Speech-Language Pathology (#225).
Two courses of study within Edinboro University’s nationally recognized master’s degree program in counseling recently received further acclaim from leading higher education and career websites in the field.
The higher education website Great College Deals recently recognized Edinboro’s M.A. in Counseling – School Counseling as #4 in its 10 Best Deals on Online Master’s in School Counseling Degree Programs. According to the website, the rankings “reflect the presence of an intuitive online classroom environment, a richly diverse school counseling curriculum, a high percentage of faculty with Ph.Ds., course schedule flexibility, awards and ranking recognition” and other factors that add value to the online program.
The educational website Best Counseling Degrees ranked Edinboro’s Master of Arts in Counseling – College Counseling #6 in its list of Best Master’s Degrees in Student Affairs and College Counseling. This ranking of the top 30 campus-based programs in the country is based on methodology that includes affordability and accreditation by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).
EU’s Animation and Computer Animation programs ranked 18th on the East Coast and 17th nationally among public colleges and universities in Animation Career Review's 2016 listing of the best animation programs in the United States.
Animation Career Review also placed EU’s Bachelor of Science in Computer Science – Game and Virtual World Development track 24th nationally among public schools and colleges and 20th on the East Coast in its 2016 listing of the best game design programs in the United States.
Animation Career Review’s rankings are based on academic reputation, admission selectivity, depth and breadth of the program and faculty, value and geographic location.
Edinboro University is one of the best colleges in the nation to work for for the second consecutive year, according to a survey by The Chronicle of Higher Education. The recognition in The Chronicle’s eighth annual report on The Academic Workplace was based on a survey of employees at 281 colleges and universities.
Edinboro is one of only 86 institutions achieving 2015 “Great College to Work For®” recognition for specific best practices and policies.
Edinboro University’s commitment to diversity and inclusion was recognized with a 2015 INSIGHT Into Diversity Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award. This is the second consecutive year the University has earned the award.
The HEED Award reflects achievement and commitment to broadening diversity and inclusion on campus through initiatives, programs and outreach, diversity in hiring and diversity student recruitment and success.
The award recognized a broad array of efforts at Edinboro, including a more active role for the University Diversity Council. During the 2013-14 academic year, the Council began producing a regular email newsletter for the campus community and organized such events as “One Campus Experience: A Celebration of the Life and Legacy of Nelson Mandela,” a weeklong observance highlighted by a keynote address by international human rights activist Nontombi Naomi Tutu, daughter of former Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

EU’s Master of Education in Early Childhood Education is #7 in OnlineU’s listing of the nation’s Most Affordable Early Childhood Education Degrees Online. Edinboro’s online Master of Social Work degree program was #11 in the nation in OnlineU’s 2015 Best Value Online Social Work Degree report, the most recent ranking in that category.

Edinboro University’s innovative plan for establishing Porreco College to increase educational attainment in the region and meet local demands for career and technical education received the American Association of University Administrators' (AAUA) Exemplary Models Award for 2015.

The ranking of nearly 1,200 programs was compiled by NurseJournal.org, which identifies itself as a “Social Community for Nurses Worldwide.” Its mission is to educate, inform and share.
The rankings use quantifiable measures of quality, affordability, convenience, satisfaction and value to determine the best programs in each region.
The high-value, low-cost education offered by Edinboro University earned it a place among the top colleges in Pennsylvania for return on investment in Affordable Colleges Online rankings.
According to Affordable Colleges Online, the rankings point to “affordable schools with quality education programs that translate to real career potential.”

Victory Media, Inc., the premier media entity for military personnel transitioning into civilian life and publisher of the Guide to Military Friendly Schools, named Edinboro University to its coveted “Military Friendly Schools” list for a seventh consecutive year in 2016.

SuperScholar.org, an online source of information for students seeking quality, high-value educational programs, ranked Edinboro University’s Master of Education in Early Childhood Education #23 in its “50 Best Online Master’s in Early Childhood Education Programs 2015.”
The “Smart Choice” endorsement was based on data in the areas of affordability, starting salaries of recent graduates, market reputation, awards and recognition, and flexibility. Only online programs at regionally accredited colleges and universities listed in the National Center for Education Statists database were eligible for consideration.
The program also was recognized as one of the nation's best (#14) in 2016 by OnlineColleges.net.
The outcomes-based Educate To Career (ETC) College Rankings Index named Edinboro University a Top Best Value College for 2014, a designation that reflects the University’s ranking in the top one-third of more than 1,200 institutions measured by the index.
ETC, a California-based nonprofit organization, calculates the index in an effort to determine the economic value added by each college ranked. “We define economic value added as being the improvement in earnings and employability of graduates; measured against the total cost of the education,” its website states.
The index uses alumni employment data as well as calculations of the cost of an education based on tuition, number of years to graduate, and loan default rates, among other variables.
Edinboro was named #16 in the top 50 schools in the country that are best for homeschooled students by Best Value Schools. The ranking reflects EU’s close attention to student success, our unique and vibrant campus traditions, and our strong support for first-year students as they transition to college.
The ranking places the University in the company of—and ranked higher than—the University of Pennsylvania, Stanford, Auburn and Yale.
Edinboro University’s tremendous service to Erie County in launching Porreco College to fill a significant void in Pennsylvania’s largest county without a community college was recognized with the Community Service Award at the 2014 Commitment to Erie Awards banquet on Sept. 17.
The Erie Times-News presents the awards annually to honor companies and nonprofit organizations for their contributions toward making the Erie region a good place to live and work.
EU was also a finalist for the program’s top honor, the Commitment to Erie Award.
Edinboro University’s Master of Arts in Counseling is ranked #7 in the Top 15 Online Master's in Counseling Degree Programs 2015 list compiled by Best Master’s in Psychology.
The ranking particularly highlights the EU counseling program’s unique Art Therapy concentration, which is the first completely online program of its type.
“Art therapy is revolutionizing the way we think about human services. At Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, they offer an online master’s degree in Arts Counseling that received Nonprofit Colleges Online’s ‘Students Before Profits Award’,” the article states.
The Top 15 Online Masters in Counseling Degree Programs are determined by tuition, number of students in the program relative to overall enrollment, uniqueness of the program, accreditation and reviews in the Guide to Online Schools. The ranked institutions were determined to be “the best of the best,” based on a numerical scale.
In addition, the Online Master of Education in Educational Psychology and Master of Arts in Counseling: Art Therapy are ranked #8 in the country in Nonprofit Colleges Online’s new Students Before Profits Award rankings.
The award recognizes online programs from accredited, nonprofit colleges and universities with objectively lower than average tuition cost.
