EU and its programs in top-tier U.S. News rankings
Edinboro University is ranked in the top tier as one of the best universities in the northern region in U.S. News & World Report's 2015 Best Colleges.
U.S. News' Best Regional Universities rankings are based on such quality indicators as retention and graduation rates, admissions selectivity, faculty strength, and assessment by administrators at peer institutions.
Additional U.S. News & World Report recognition for EU programs include:
- Best Online Graduate Programs ranking in Nursing (#37), Education (#72) and Social Work (#148).
- Best Graduate Schools ranking for programs in Rehabilitation Counseling (#90), Fine Arts (#93) and Speech-Language Pathology (#181).
EU Game Design, Animation again rank among best
The Game and Virtual World Development Track of Edinboro's Computer Science program ranked 21st on the East Coast and 53rd nationally in Animation Career Review's 2014 Game Design School Rankings.
EU's Animation and Computer Animation programs ranked 23rd on the East Coast and 74th nationally in the Top 100 Animation School Programs in the U.S.
Animation Career Review's rankings are based on academic reputation, admission selectivity, depth and breadth of the program and faculty, value and geographic location.
EU recognized for excellent return on investment
The high-value, low-cost education offered by Edinboro University earned it a place among the top colleges in Pennsylvania for return on investment in Affordable Colleges Online rankings.
According to Affordable Colleges Online, the rankings point to “affordable schools with quality education programs that translate to real career potential.”
The site also recognized EU’s online graduate programs as #2 in Pennsylvania in its 2014 Most Affordable Online Colleges in Pennsylvania ranking.
EU earns 2014 INSIGHT Into Diversity HEED Award
Edinboro University’s commitment to diversity and inclusion was recognized with a 2014 INSIGHT Into Diversity Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award.
The HEED Award reflects achievement and commitment to broadening diversity and inclusion on campus through initiatives, programs and outreach, diversity in hiring and diversity student recruitment and success.
The award recognized a broad array of efforts at Edinboro, including a more active role for the University Diversity Council. During the 2013-14 academic year, the Council began producing a regular email newsletter for the campus community and organized such events as “One Campus Experience: A Celebration of the Life and Legacy of Nelson Mandela,” a weeklong observance highlighted by a keynote address by international human rights activist Nontombi Naomi Tutu, daughter of former Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
EU ranked among 'Best for Vets Colleges
Military Times named Edinboro University to its Best for Vets: Colleges 2015 rankings. The rankings are based on a comprehensive school-by-school assessment of veteran and military students’ success rates.
Edinboro is one of just 140 four-year universities and colleges nationwide to be named as a best fit for service members, military veterans and their families.
The survey-based Best for Vets ranking of colleges requires schools to meticulously document services, special rules, accommodations and financial incentives offered to military and veteran students and to describe many aspects of veteran culture on a campus.
Edinboro's MSW program earns multiple recognitions
The online Master of Social Work, one of Edinboro University's most in-demand graduate programs, is also one of the University's most frequently and highly ranked. In addition to the top U.S. News & World Report ranking cited above, the program has been ranked among the nation's best by:
- BestColleges.com, whose 2014 Best Online Master’s in Social Work Programs ranks EU #7 in the top 11 nationwide.
- Graduate Programs.com, which ranked Edinboro #14 among its 2014 Top Student Rated Online MSW Programs.
- Create a Career, which ranks EU’s online MSW program #16 in the United States.
EU named a 'Great College to Work For'
Edinboro University is one of the best colleges in the nation to work for, according to a survey by The Chronicle of Higher Education. The recognition in The Chronicle's seventh annual report on The Academic Workplace was based on a survey of more than 43,000 employees at 278 colleges and universities.
Edinboro is one of only 92 institutions achieving "Great College to Work For®" recognition for specific best practices and policies. The University earned recognition in the Compensation & Benefits category.
EU a four-time 'Military Friendly School'
Victory Media, Inc., the premier media entity for military personnel transitioning into civilian life and publisher of the Guide to Military Friendly Schools, named Edinboro University to its coveted "Military Friendly Schools" list for a fourth consecutive year.
The ranking honors the top 20 percent of higher education institutions nationwide that are doing the most to embrace America's military service members, veterans and spouses as students and to ensure their success on campus.
In addition to a high-quality, affordable education, Edinboro offers veterans, service members and their families an array of supportive services coordinated through its Veterans Success Center.
EU's services to students with disabilities widely lauded
The book "College Success for Students with Physical Disabilities" by Chris Wise Tiedemann in 2012 recognized Edinboro University as one of the top five universities in the United States for providing full services to students with disabilities.
Tiedemann’s book profiles the top schools and provides strategies for students with disabilities to adapt to college and obtain necessary services.
Additional recognition for Edinboro’s outstanding services to students with disabilities has come from:
- The Education Rankings & Advice section of U.S. News & World Report's website, which refers Edinboro's services and Tiedemann's book in an article, "4 Tips for College Applicants, Students with Physical Disabilities."
- Paralyzed Veterans of America, which referred to Edinboro as "an excellent example of how a university can provide for the special needs of students with disabilities, programmatically and in the physical environment," in "College Accessibility: A Case Study" on its website.
- Dealing With Different, a website that describes itself as "Your source for self-discovery for the physically unique." It ranks Edinboro #6 of 20 in its Best Colleges For The Physically Disabled ranking.
- The College Mapper blog, which recently placed Edinboro at the top of its list of the Best Colleges for Students with Disabilities.
EU Counseling program in Top 10
The educational website Best Counseling Degrees featured Edinboro University's Master of Education in Educational Psychology program as #6 in the nation in its "Top 10 Accredited Online School Counseling Master's Degrees Ranked By Affordability."
The list "shines a bright light on 10 exceptional master's programs," stated Best Counseling Degrees in announcing the ranking. Only school counseling degree programs with official recognition from the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) were eligible for inclusion.
EU earns Colleges Shaping the Next Generation nod
The Online College Database ranks Edinboro University's School of Education #7 in Pennsylvania in its "Colleges Shaping the Next Generation" division.
The list recognizes institutions "with top rankings, faculty, facilities, and programs," the website states. "Each program has top-notch instructors, and students are encouraged to take part in research projects, internships, and other hands-on learning experiences."
Additional recognition for Edinboro University education programs has come from:
- OnlineU.org, a website of the education publishing company SR Education Group, which ranked the University #13 in its list of the nation's most affordable online Early Childhood Education degrees.
- TheBestSchools.org, a higher education/career website, which ranked the University's online Master of Education degree program #19 in the United States, based on the quality of the program, the types of courses offered, the faculty, awards, rankings and reputation.
EU named a Top Best Value College
The outcomes-based Educate To Career (ETC) College Rankings Index named Edinboro University a Top Best Value College for 2014, a designation that reflects the University's ranking in the top one-third of more than 1,200 institutions measured by the index.
ETC, a California-based nonprofit organization, calculates the index in an effort to determine the economic value added by each college ranked. "We define economic value added as being the improvement in earnings and employability of graduates; measured against the total cost of the education," its website states.
The index uses alumni employment data as well as calculations of the cost of an education based on tuition, number of years to graduate, and loan default rates, among other variables.
EU a top-50 choice for homeschooled students
Edinboro was named #16 in the top 50 schools in the country that are best for homeschooled students by Best Value Schools. The ranking reflects EU’s close attention to student success, our unique and vibrant campus traditions, and our strong support for first-year students as they transition to college.
The ranking places the University in the company of – and ranked higher than – the University of Pennsylvania, Stanford, Auburn and Yale.
Edinboro receives Community Service Award for Porreco College launch
Edinboro University's tremendous service to Erie County in launching Porreco College to fill a significant void in Pennsylvania's largest county without a community college was recognized with the Community Service Award at the 2014 Commitment to Erie Awards banquet on Sept. 17.
The Erie Times-News presents the awards annually to honor companies and nonprofit organizations for their contributions toward making the Erie region a good place to live and work.
EU was also a finalist for the program's top honor, the Commitment to Erie Award.
EU Educational Psychology, Art Therapy programs rank #8
Edinboro University's Online Master of Education in Educational Psychology and Master of Arts in Counseling: Art Therapy – the nation's first completely online Art Therapy graduate program – are ranked #8 in the country in Nonprofit Colleges Online's new Students Before Profits Award rankings.
The award recognizes online programs from accredited, nonprofit colleges and universities with objectively lower than average tuition cost.
