Student Organizations and Activities

Chimera

Each year, students produce a professional-grade journal highlighting the highest-quality art and literature created at PennWest Edinboro. Serving on the journal’s literary staff gives students the opportunity to engage in interdisciplinary creative endeavor as they jury, edit and market work conceived, designed, and produced by their peers. This “by students, for students” approach promotes creativity and professional application in the arts. Chimera invites participation from students of all academic backgrounds, placing no limits on subject, style or form. The journal has won numerous design awards including the 2019 National Program Directors’ Prize for Undergraduate Literary Magazines from AWP’s annual Writers Conference.

University Writing Center

English students work as writing consultants at the University Writing Center, where they assist other students in matters ranging from brainstorming to idea development to citation and documentation of sources. As writing consultants, students help others while developing their own writing, editorial, instructional and collaborative skills.

EAPSU

English students share in the Department’s membership in the English Association of Pennsylvania State Universities. Edinboro faculty and students attend the yearly EAPSU Conference where they present their creative and scholarly work. Every year, English faculty select an EAPSU Outstanding English Major who is invited to present at the conference.
