The Department of Journalism and Public Relations prepares students for careers in the mass media and related industries. Program graduates are prepared to work in broadcast and/or print journalism and public relations, and are able to synthesize complex information and communicate it clearly and succinctly, which is relevant to virtually any career situation—and is a central tenet of a liberal arts education. The Department recently added a major concentration in digital media production, as well as several new minors which provide practical skills in digital media and public relations, branding and imaging. Potential career opportunities include television, radio, newspapers, multimedia, advertising, promotion, branding, imaging, photojournalism, video, podcasting and documentary.

Department faculty possess a broad range of academic credentials and more than 60 years of combined professional experience in positions ranging from newspaper and television reporters and radio station executives to digital video producers and public relations managers. The Journalism and Public Relations curriculum reflects a strong commitment to the fundamentals and foundations of journalism while also ensuring that students are prepared to produce content through multiple platforms.

The Department maintains a variety of digital production studios and media labs, as well as a television studio, weekly campus newspaper, and 3,000-watt non-commercial radio station. Students are encouraged to become involved in a variety of professionally-based co-curricular activities, including our campus media organizations (ETV, The Spectator and WFSE-FM) and award-winning chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA).

Unleash your potential with a degree in Journalism and Public Relations.
