          Edinboro University’s Master of Arts in Counseling program has earned multiple national recognitions for excellence and affordability in preparing graduate students for rewarding careers in Art Therapy, Clinical Rehabilitation and Clinical Mental Health, Clinical Mental Health, College Counseling, and School Counseling.

          The mission of the MA Counseling programs is to enhance the intellectual, cultural, social and ethical development of graduate students. To this end the program emphasizes integration of theory, research and practice. It prepares counseling professionals to serve diverse communities and individuals in a variety of human service settings.

          Art Therapy

          Edinboro University’s Master of Arts in Counseling – Art Therapy program was the first entirely online Art Therapy program in the nation.

          Ranked #8 in the nation by Nonprofit Colleges Online’s “Students Before Profits Award,” our Master of Arts in Counseling – Art Therapy program is approved by the National Association of School of Art and Design (NASAD) Commission on Accreditation and meets the educational requirements of the ART Therapy Credentials Board (ATCB) to qualify you for registration as an Art Therapist (ATR). This program is designed to meet American Art Therapy Association (AATA) requirements.

          This program is designed to meet the educational requirements of students who wish to pursue national Art Therapy Credential (ATR) and Pennsylvania Counselor Licensure (LPC).

          Clinical Mental Health

          The students and faculty of the Clinical Mental Health Program are a diverse community of learners collaboratively engaged in research, scholarship, leadership and service. Faculty are committed to providing didactic and experiential learning experiences to educate counselors to be effective clinical practitioners in a pluralistic community. Collectively, our mission is to prepare professional counselors who embody ethical behavior, provide services to enhance the mental health and well-being of families, groups, couples and individuals and advocate on behalf of both the counseling profession and those we serve.  The Clinical Mental Health program is accredited by CACREP.

          College Counseling

          The College Counseling program can be completed entirely online.

          In addition to addressing the overall mission for all counseling programs, the College Counseling program provides a high quality learning experience that prepares graduate students to work in a variety of collegiate/academic settings. The program is responsive to changing CACREP standards that emphasize the significance of fully-credentialed college counselors, functioning throughout the campus environment. The program is one of only two CACREP-accredited College Counseling programs in Pennsylvania. The educational website Best Counseling Degrees ranked the program #6 in its list of Best Master’s Degrees in Student Affairs and College Counseling. This academic program prepares College Counseling program graduates to pass national certification and licensure examinations and serves as a strong precursor for supervised experiences in the field.

          Clinical Rehabilitation and Clinical Mental Health Counseling

          Clinical Rehabilitation and Clinical Mental Health Counseling is a rewarding profession that assists persons with physical, cognitive, neurological, mental and emotional disabilities to fully develop their personal, social, interpersonal and vocational potentials. Rooted in a strengths-based, holistic approach, the purpose of the clinical rehabilitation counseling program is to equip students with the specialized knowledge and skills to facilitate the independence, integration and inclusion of persons with disabilities in employment and the community.

          The Rehabilitation and Mental Health Program addresses the knowledge, skills and dispositions expected of graduates of the master’s program, enabling them to assess a person’s needs, develop plans to meet the identified needs, and deliver or arrange for services. The Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling program is accredited by CORE.

          School Counseling

          The School Counseling program can be completed entirely online and was recently ranked #4 among the 10 Best Deals in Online Master’s in School Counseling Degree Programs by the higher education website Great College Deals.

          It is expected that graduates of Edinboro University’s school counseling program will be competent professional counselors, with knowledge of ethics, theory, clinical skills and school counselor roles and functions. They will learn how to become advocates and educational leaders within a pluralistic school and community that will assist in the academic, career and social development of students.  The School Counseling program is accredited by CACREP.
