Continuing education is important to the professional development of educators in Pennsylvania. In fact, it is required by Act 48 of 1999. Find out how PennWest Edinboro's School of Education helps all educators who hold Pennsylvania public school certification complete and report their Act 48 requirements.
Passed in 1999, Act 48 of the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) requires educators to continue their professional development by reporting earned academic credits to the PDE. This means that professional, certified educators must earn at least six credits of PDE-approved continuing professional education courses every five years to maintain active certification.
This Act guarantees that Pennsylvania teachers will be lifelong learners and always be updated on teaching trends and state requirements. For complete information about Act 48, please visit the PDE website.
Certified public school personnel who are currently attending PennWest Edinboro may count their courses for the Act 48 continuing education requirements, provided the courses are in their area of certification or teaching assignment. All collegiate credit courses at PennWest Edinboro are approved for Act 48 credit.
Students must request that PennWest Edinboro report their credits to the PDE after
the courses have been satisfactorily completed and the final grades have been recorded.
