          Teacher Candidacy

The path to becoming a certified teacher at Edinboro University begins by obtaining “Teacher Candidacy” after entering the program. This candidacy allows students to continue to the upper level courses, become certified through the Pennsylvania Department of Education, and receive experience as student teachers.

One of the first steps a student who wishes to become a teacher must complete is to obtain the status of teacher candidate within the School of Education. “Teacher Candidacy” is a set of procedures and standards for completing the School of Education programs at Edinboro University. Students must obtain “candidacy” to continue with their chosen program. This structure ensures that Edinboro graduates are prepared to be excellent professional educators by meeting the quality standards at both national and state levels.

After entering a program in the School of Education and passing initial testing, the next step is to obtain Teacher Candidacy, which will allow students to continue with the program as they move toward graduation. Outlined below are the steps that must be taken by Undergraduates, Graduates, and Certified Professionals. Learn more about teacher candidacy
