One of the first steps a student who wishes to become a teacher must complete is to obtain the status of teacher candidate within the School of Education. “Teacher Candidacy” is a set of procedures and standards for completing the School of Education programs at Edinboro University. Students must obtain “candidacy” to continue with their chosen program. This structure ensures that Edinboro graduates are prepared to be excellent professional educators by meeting the quality standards at both national and state levels.
After entering a program in the School of Education and passing initial testing, the next step is to obtain Teacher Candidacy, which will allow students to continue with the program as they move toward graduation. Undergraduate students must meet these criteria in order to obtain candidacy:
Applications must be signed by the applicant and his/her advisor and attached with the most current Edinboro University degree works audit and a copy of PAPA/Core/SAT/ACT scores. Please ensure all clearances are up-to-date and on file with the University before submitting an application for candidacy.
Professionals already certified in Pennsylvania who are getting additional certification need not apply for candidacy. These individuals must take the appropriate courses and pass the required testing to be qualified for certification in their area. All clearances must be up-to-date and on file with the University.
