          Community Music School

          Two Locations: 
          EU Main campus (Alexander Music Center)  
          Porreco Campus in Erie (2951 West 38th Street)

          The Community Music School at Edinboro University is dedicated to teaching children and adults of all ages how to play, read and appreciate music. Lessons are available year-round and are a great way to begin or enhance your musical expertise.

          Private lessons and/or group instruction is available in a wide variety of instruments and voice. Lessons are taught at both EU’s Porreco campus in Erie and at Alexander Music Center on the Edinboro campus. Some offerings are specific to location, so please inquire of the CMS office – (814) 732-1357.

          Lessons are offered year-round. You may enroll at any time, pending teacher availability. If you or your child are interested in beginning or continuing musical education, please contact us! Our professors, community professional instructors, and advanced music major student teachers look forward to working with you to enhance your life with joyful music making!

          CMS Summer 2019 Session – June 1 through August 23

          Students may enroll in private lessons at any time, pending teaching availability

          Strings/piano:  Suzuki Violin*, Suzuki Piano**, Piano, Violin, Viola, Guitar
          Adult Group Class Piano: Levels I and II starts January 22-23 for 10 weeks
          Voice: Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass, Children’s vocal lessons
          Woodwinds: Flute, Recorder, Clarinet, Saxophone
          Brass: Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba
          Percussion: Mallets, Drum Set
          Heritage: Bagpipe, Celtic Harp

          *Suzuki Violin – with Maria Lyon, M. Ed. Ms. Lyon has received Suzuki Violin Teacher Training through Book 4 at the Ithaca College and Southwestern Ontario Suzuki Institutes. Please contact Maria Lyon directly for more information on the Suzuki Violin Program: Or, visit her studio page:

           **Suzuki Piano – and Adult Group Class Piano – with Sara Adams, B.A. in Music at Edinboro University, M.M. in Piano Performance and Pedagogy, 2 years of doctoral coursework at Ohio University. Ms. Adams has completed all 8 courses in Suzuki Piano Pedagogy under the tutelage of internationally acclaimed pedagogue Mary Craig Powell (Capital University.) Her many years of teaching experience have included students ranging from pre-school beginners through college level music majors. Ms. Adams also teaches Recorder, using a modified Suzuki approach.

          Recitals for CMS students take place in Alexander Recital Hall and are held at the end of each semester.
