Minor in Applied Computer Technology

Recently it became clear to the members of the Mathematics and Computer Science Department that there was a need for a minor in the use of computer technology. The strongest motivation for this minor came from the students in the current computer science minor. There were a number of students that would not pursue the computer science minor because they were not interested in studying about the science of computing. They do not expect to find employment that will require extensive programming, major software system design, or computer architecural analysis. But they do want to know more about computers and how to effectively use them in their field of interest.

The credits required in this minor may be used to satisfy general education requirements as well as to help achieve many of the goals of general education, including

  • To provide a broad base of knowledge;
  • To develop analytical thinking skills;
  • To develop communication skills;
  • To develop mathematical, computer, and quantitative skills.

Curriculm for the Minor:
CSCI104 Essential Computing I 3 semester hours
CSCI204 Essential Computing II 3 semester hours
CSCI207 Programming in Visual Basic 3 semester hours
CSCI280 Principles of System Operation and Administration 3 semester hours
