POSITION TITLE AND NUMBER: Chemistry Technician (Position #10014676) POSITION DESCRIPTION: Regular, Full-time RESPONSIBILITIES: Technical position responsible for storage, maintenance, inventory control and safety of chemical laboratory supplies; maintains inventory control systems for chemical stockrooms/storage areas, laboratory equipment; bar codes/tracks chemicals; maintains logs of chemical waste generated; inspects/maintains lab safety equipment and maintains records required by EPA, RCRA, NRC, etc; orders lab supplies; assists faculty in troubleshooting new experiments; provides lead work over student laboratory aides; assists the Radiation Safety Officer; performs other related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: An Associate's Degree including or supplemented by major course work in chemistry, chemical technology, or a related natural science which includes at least nine credit hours in chemistry; or completion of at least sixty college level credit hours which includes nine credit hours in chemistry; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which includes at least nine college level credit hours in chemistry. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills required; finalist(s) will be required to successfully complete an interview. A baccalaureate degree in chemistry or a degree in another science discipline with the equivalency of a chemistry minor preferred. Experience in laboratory safety inspections and maintaining lab safety equipment preferred. Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: · Knowledge of methods, principles, and practices of chemistry as it relates to analytical laboratory testing; modern laboratory equipment and materials; sources of information in the field of analytical chemistry; methods and practices of samples collection and preservation; chemical safety and other laboratory safety procedures. · Computer skills to include word processing, database, spreadsheet or specialized inventory software. · Ability to conduct analytical chemical laboratory tests; · Ability to prepare accurate and thorough laboratory reports. · Ability to safely lift fifty pounds. · Training in first aid, respirator use, CPR and other training or certification as required by the duties of this position.
