KELLY RICHARDS NAMED TO PSAC SPRING TOP TEN

EDINBORO, PA - Edinboro University junior Kelly Richards (Edinboro, PA/General McLane) has been named to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Spring Top Ten. The Top Ten Awards, selected by the PSAC's sports information directors, recognize student-athletes who distinguish themselves in the classroom, as well as in the arena of competition.

To be a candidate for the Top Ten Awards, a student-athlete must have achieved a minimum of a 3.25 cumulative grade point average and must be a starter or key reserve. Only student-athletes from the spring sports season are eligible for the Spring Top Ten Awards. The PSAC also sponsors fall and winter Top Ten awards.

Richards is an elementary education/special education major with a 3.97 GPA. She narrowly missed earning All-American honors for the second time recently at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships. She placed ninth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:01.47. She had placed seventh in the preliminaries. Earlier in the season she posted a PSAC-best time of 10:56.78 in the event. She was not entered in the 3000-meter steeplechase at the PSAC Championships, but came away with All-PSAC honors thanks to a third place finish in the 1500 meter run. Richards earned All-American honors in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 2003 with a seventh-place finish.

A three-time All-PSAC and All-East Region performer in cross country, this past fall Richards helped the Edinboro women's cross country team to its best finish ever at Nationals, as the Fighting Scots came in second. She was one of four Fighting Scot harriers to earn All-American honors, finishing 24th. In addition, she placed fourth in the PSAC Championships and ninth in the East Region Championships.

Richards is a six-time National Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic choice.
