Mission Statement
“NALS is an international association of pre-kindergarten through
graduate laboratory and university affiliated schools engaged in
practices of teacher training, curriculum development, research,
professional development, and educational experimentation for the
purpose of supporting member’s schools and as a voice speaking for
the improvement of learning for all children.”
Greetings!
It is with great pride that I
welcome you to the NALS Website. NALS: The International Association of
Laboratory and University Affiliated Schools has a proud history of
fifty years. But laboratory schools and those schools affiliated with
universities and colleges have an even longer history. In 2002, during
the 75th anniversary of Wimpheimer Laboratory School of
Vassar College, the director, Julie Reiss toasted all laboratory school
colleagues. “Without you, we are just a single school in a single
building on a single campus. With you, we are a network, a laboratory
community without walls. Our enrollment is not simply a headcount of
those within our school, but a ripple effect in a large educational
pond. Our research is not just another paper to fulfill another
requirement, but an addition in our ever-growing knowledge structures.
We thank you for everything you do on behalf of laboratory schools here
and abroad. To all that has been and all that will be, Cheers!” So I
find it appropriate on this 50th anniversary year of NALS to
ask that we toast our Association and each of our members.
We hope you explore the
informative and inspiring material about our conferences, symposia,
grant opportunities, publications and joint projects. I am proud to
announce that the newest benefit of NALS membership is an affiliation
with the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) and a
subscription to the Marshall Memos. I trust your visit to our site will
offer new features, programs and services that will be beneficial to
your school. Your comments and suggestions are always welcome.
For over eight decades, laboratory schools have understood
the importance of their mission and committed their best efforts to a
variety of education functions. So, on behalf of NALS Board of
Directors, I toast you, our member schools world-wide... To all that has
been and all that will be… Cheers!
Best to all,
Patricia Diebold

Common Project
Our
recent newsletter outlined three new initiatives created at the summer
board meeting by our
Executive Board. The most exciting and easiest to join is the Common
Project. This year’s focus is supporting the United Nations effort to
help eradicate malaria in Africa through the Millennium Promise
program. We are asking all our member schools to help buy mosquito nets
for the Millennium Villages. Click
here for more information.
