Biology and Health Services Department

At the present time there are 15 full-time faculty members in the Biology and Health Services Department who provide students the opportunity to work with specialists in a variety of biological areas. This also permits small classes to be conducted with the instructor in a personalized manner. All of the Department faculty members have terminal degrees in their area of expertise and are active in research. In addition, many of the faculty have post-doctoral research experience.  However, each member is selected and evaluated primarily on the basis of his ability to teach and work with students.

The department is equipped with facilities for both undergraduate and graduate programs in biology. There are nine teaching labs, as well as a number of research and independent study labs. The facilities include a greenhouse, museum, herbarium, a computer facility, and molecular biology and aquatic research laboratories. There is also an opportunity during the summer for students to attend terrestrial and freshwater ecology classes at the Pymatuning Laboratory of Ecology, Linesville, Pennsylvania through a consortial agreement between Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and the University of Pittsburgh.

Project S-STEM: Scholarship in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics

Current or new students who enroll in a STEM program at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania are encouraged to apply for scholarship awards of up to $4,000 for Pennsylvania residents and up to $6,000 for non-Pennsylvania residents. STEM programs include Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Geosciences, Mathematics and Physics. Incoming freshman may apply if they are in the top 20% of their high school class, enroll in a STEM program and have 2 letters of recommendation from their teachers, preferably in Science or Mathematics. Their SAT/ACT Math and Accuplacer scores will also be a determining factor. Edinboro University students and transfer students may apply if they have a 3.5 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) after having completed 12-29 credit hours or a 3.0 GPA after having completed 30 or more credit hours. These students must also have two letters of recommendation from STEM faculty. For more information, please visit the S-STEM website by clicking here.
