Description: Interns will receive hands-on experience while learning all aspects of a News Department. They will initially shadow staff members in the field but will eventually be responsible for news gathering and writing.
Interns are assigned to many duties that the regular staff members do every day. They will cover news stories in the field with a videographer and then write the story for broadcast. Other duties include making telephone checks to police and fire agencies, scanning the wire services and newspapers for story ideas, or driving several miles to pick up a video tape. These duties may not be glamorous, but are equally important. Interns do not appear on camera because of union restrictions, but past interns at 12 News valued their experience and recommend it to their advisors that other students be assigned.
