The Transit of Venus: Once in a Lifetime
Thursday, May 24th – 7PM
Cooper Science Hall
This June, we will have the opportunity to witness the Transit of Venus. Come learn more about this rare solar alignment and why this is truly a once in a lifetime event. This program is recommended for children 6th grade and up.
Admission is free, however, Reservations are required.
Venus Transit: Coming to a sky near you!
On June 5th, 2012 residents of Northwest Pennsylvania will have the opportunity to witness an astronomical event that will not occur again for 105 years! Venus will cross in front of the disc of the sun on June 5th of this year and your entire family can enjoy this evening event with others. Join Presque Isle State Park, Edinboro University Planetarium and Erie Planetarium as we share this stellar event with you.
When: June 5th 2012 - starting at 6:00pm
Where: Beach 7 - Presque Isle State Park
What: Telescopic viewing of Venus Transit
In addition: At 4:00pm in room 112 of the Tom Ridge Environmental Center, Dr. David Hurd, Planetarium Director, Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, will detail the Venus transit and will be introducing a guest speaker from England. Dr. Halley, will be journeying far from home to be with us during this event. Dr. Halley will share with us the historical significance of a Venus Transit. After the lecture, we can drive out to Beach 7. Bring your family and a picnic supper and lots of curiosity as we learn about and witness this significant event together.
