A Small Research Opportunities (SRO) program to provide seed funding for faculty and staff to support new research.
Application packets are available here.
Purpose of Program
Applicants must commit to submitting a major, high-quality proposal for funding within one year of the end of the SRO award period. Awards of up to $2,000 will be made. Funds may be used to advance a project to the stage of proposal submission (validation of survey instrument, baseline data collection, work to prove the feasibility of the study) or to provide the project director with sufficient time to prepare a proposal for external funding (summer stipend).
All full-time faculty and staff of Edinboro University are eligible to submit an application.
Proposal Format
Applications should include sufficient information to allow the review committee to get a good understanding of what activities will be supported by the funds. Entire applications may not exceed ten double-spaced pages, 12 point font, and must include the following:
1. Cover page
2. Project description - includes goals, proposed activities, and potential for funding from external
sponsors.
3. Project timeline
4. Budget and budget justification - examples of allowable expenses include summer stipends,
student wages, travel costs (must be related to proposal development)
5. Biosketch not to exceed 2 pages
Evaluation of Proposals
The proposal will be reviewed by the Research Advisory Committee (RAC). RAC membership is by recommendation of the Dean and appointment by the Dean of Graduate Studies and Research. The committee, at its discretion, may also request a disciplinary review of the proposal. The committee will consider both the plan for proposal development and the appropriateness of funding agencies when determining if the proposal will be funded. The evaluation matrix is available here.
Award Stipulations
♦ Awardees will be responsible for expending funds in accordance with the approved budget.
Revisions to the approved budget must be requested in writing prior to expenditure of funds.
♦ Awardees will be required to submit a final report. In addition, a competitive proposal must be
submitted to an external funding agency within twelve months of the end of the award period.
♦ Awardees will not be eligible to submit another application for a SRO until submission of the
proposal for external funding is completed.
♦ Awardees must present their research during the Fall Dean's Colloquium.
