Dr. Jean Jones

Short Biography

Dr. Jean Jones graduated summa cum laude from Wright State University with her Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary English, Communication and Theater Education with a minor in Business. The following year, she earned her Masters of Arts Degree in English with an emphasis in creative writing and rhetoric from the same university. She continued on, receiving her Pd. D from the University of Pittsburgh for Rhetoric and Communication with a specialization in political communication, propaganda studies, and interpersonal communication. But that was not enough for Dr. Jones. Beginning in 2005, she began intensive Spanish language studies were she would immerse herself into the culture completely by living in a Spanish speaking country for many weeks at a time.

Dr. Jones started working at Edinboro University in 1995. After teaching full time for fourteen years, she became President of the Edinboro University APSCUF Faculty Union (“Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties”) in 2009. Just two short years later, in 2011, she took over the job as Director of the Robert C. Weber honors Program. In her small time here she has already increased the Honors enrollment by nearly 75 new members each fall semester, doubled the number of students living in the Honors Living Learning floor, and completely revamped curriculum, requirements, and academic components.

Dr. Jones, along with two other authors, collaborated together to write “Lucifer State: A Novel Approach to Rhetoric” which was published in 2007. Four years later, a book of hers was once again published, entitled “Persuasion in Society.” Along with these, she has also published four articles, which can be found in Communication Quarterly, Let’s Talk: A Skills Approach to Interpersonal Communication, and Higher Education: A Reader for College Lives.

Aside from her publications, Dr. Jones also has a very long list of honors and awards. Twice she received the great honor of being announced “Educator of the Year” of Edinboro University. She has received the “Exceptional in the Classroom” Certificate of Appreciation three times. She became “Advisor of the Year” in 2001, and before taking over the Dr. Robert C. Weber Honors Program, she received their “Very Important Person Award” twice.

There is no doubt that Dr. Jean Jones has made “Great Things Happen Here.”
