STUDY ABROAD CHECKLIST

 

  1. Discuss your desire to study abroad:
    • Family and Friends
      • Heritage: Are there places you might go that have family relevance?
      • Finances
        • What can you afford?
        • How will you afford it?
    •  

    • Students who have studied abroad - Peer Mentors
      • Advice
      • Suggestions
    •  

    • Your Academic Advisor
      • What courses must you take at Edinboro University in your program of study?
      • Degree Evaluation-how will transfer credits fit in your program's graduation requirements?
      • What University/Program does your advisor recommend that best suits your needs and interests?
    •  

    • The International Student Services Office
      • Recommendations regarding current study abroad programs available through Edinboro University or other Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education schools.
      • Maintain contact with the International Student Services Office. We are here to help and support you in this endeavor. We will assist you with any aspect of your student abroad experience whether or not it is included on the checklist!

  4. Documentation
    • Passport
      • Applications available at the U.S. Post Office, the International Student Services Office, or from the State Department website: U.S. Department of State
      • Do not put it off until the last minute!!
    • Do you need a Student Visa for the country you are visiting?
      • A visa is sometimes required. It is an official endorsement in a passport that authorizes a person's entrance to, departure from, or travel within a country.
      • Check visa requirements for the country you plan to study abroad in: Country Specific Visa Requirements

  6. Credit Transfer Authorization Form
    • Consult with Edinboro University's Office of Records and Registration
    • Obtain approval for credits from:
      • Records and Registration
      • Your Academic Advisor
      • Your Department Chairperson
      • The Dean of Your School
