BSN in Contemporary Nursing
Issues for Foreign-Educated Nurses

Hospital setting

The BSN in Contemporary Nursing Issues for Foreign-Educated Nurses is designed for individuals who have already earned a BSN (baccalaureate degree) in their own country and have already passed the NCLEX-RN licensure exam. Students, therefore, do not have to complete General Education requirements. The program is designed to be completed in three semesters. The Edinboro University Department of Nursing has received accreditation for its baccalaureate nursing programs from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. The Nursing Department currently includes 20 faculty members and over 400 students.

The program includes an immersion into the English language, with courses in Medical Terminology and Intercultural Communications to improve communication skills. One of the strengths of the Edinboro experience will be that these nursing students are integrated into classes with other American students to continually assist in developing their cultural understanding and language skills.

Patient care, as delivered in the American health care system, will be the focus for this program. Students will be enrolled in classes with traditional four-year nursing students that will emphasize current issues in health care. These classes will give students the opportunity to exchange cultural practices that will promote diversity.
