Abstract: This collection is the creation of J. Harold Hopkins, a 1919 graduate of Edinboro State Normal School. It contains documents typical of what a student would have possessed and other materials reflective of the Hopkins downtown Edinboro business. Thus it is a town and gown collection.
Acquisition Information: This is a legacy collection. The original donation is not documented.

Biography: J. Harold Hopkins, as he was usually refered to, attended Edinboro State Normal school from 1916 to 1919. In the 1916 yearbook, Harold Hopkins was listed as a member of the Philo Literary Society. In 1920 he was listed as the sole "graduate" student, an unusual designation for the time. He was part of the Hopkins family that owned businesses in downtown Edinboro. One, a dry goods store, often advertised in school publications such as the yearbook. The collection also has a photograph of a Hopkins Insurance and Real Estate store on Meadville St.
Scope and Content: The collection is well thought of as a town and gown collection. It includes materials from Hopkin's years as a student and reflects his and his family's role in the Edinboro community. There are rare items in the collection that would have been typical of what a student would accumulate during their years at Edinboro State Normal School. These include a student membership card, programs for student activities and by-laws for student organizations. There are also photographs of the campus, including some rare panoramic and aerial photographs.
The town content of the collection is richest in advertisements and photographs. The bulk of these are dated in the 1930's to 1950's.
