Please plan to arrive by 9:30 a.m.

During the day, prospective students will have the opportunity to meet with faculty and students, hear an ensemble rehearsal, and tour the facilities. And, of course, there is an audition. Auditions last about 15 minutes. Please contact the Department office for audition requirements by performance area.

After the audition, prospective students have a group interview with a member of the faculty. Interviews are conducted to answer individual questions and determine each applicant's aptitude for the program.  After the interview, your audition day is complete.  Please feel free to lunch in town or on campus.

Many students find it helpful to schedule a campus tour with the Admissions Office for the AFTERNOON [the audition is in the morning].  You can contact the Admissions Office at 888-GO-BORO.

We look forward to meeting you and hearing you perform!

Audition Guide

1. Who must audition?

All applicants for the music degree programs at Edinboro must audition.

2.How do I schedule an audition?

The first step is to file an application to the University with the Admissions Office. Applications are available from the Admissions Office (Request an Application). After the Admissions Office processes your application and notifies us, a representative of the Music Department will contact you to schedule an audition.  If you have submitted your application but have not received a call to schedule your audition,  you may call the Music Department (814) 732-2555 to check on your status.

3.When are auditions held?

Friday, December 6, 2013

Saturday, February 22, 2014

Friday, March 7, 2014

Friday, April 11, 2014

4.Where do I go for an audition?

Report to the Dr. William P. Alexander Music Center on the Edinboro campus.

5.Who will hear my audition?

You will be auditioned by a committee of faculty members in your performance area.

6.Who will be my accompanist?

Vocalists may bring your own accompanist, or one will be provided for you at the time of your audition. Be sure to bring music for the accompanist.  Instrumentalists - piano accompaniment is not required.

7.Will I have a chance to warm up?

Yes, you will have ample warm-up time.

8.What will happen in my audition?

You will have an opportunity to perform one or two pieces which you have prepared. Instrumentalists should be prepared to play major scales to four flats and four sharps in as many octaves as is appropriate. Vocalists should be prepared to vocalize.

9.Do I need to audition in other performance areas?

You will be expected to audition in your major area.

10.What if I change my mind about my performance concentration after I have auditioned?

You must make an appointment and reaudition in the new area.

11.Will the auditioner tell me the results of the audition that day?

You will be notified by mail, usually within a week, following the admissions committee review of your file. A completed file contains the results of the audition, test results, and recommendations. If any of this is missing, it may hold up action on your application.

12.If I receive notification that I am accepted into the music program, does that complete the admission process?

If you have been successful in your music audition, the Admissions Office will be notified. They will review your high school record and SAT or ACT scores. After that is completed you will be notified of the final action on your application by the Admissions Office.

13. If I don't pass the audition, may I audition again?

If you fail the audition, it is the music department's decision whether a second audition will be permitted.

14.What if I have additional questions?

Please feel free to contact the Music Department at Edinboro. Write or call: Dr. Gary S. Grant, Chair, Music Department at (814) 732-2555, or e-mail ggrant@edinboro.edu
