Welcome!
Welcome to the Edinboro University of Pennsylvania Music Department website. I am very proud of our outstanding students, faculty, and facilities and I encourage you to seriously consider Edinboro University.
The Music Department at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania is a member of the National Association ofSchools of Music and the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association. The ratio of music majors to full-time music faculty is 6:1, which allows students to receive a superior education in a welcoming environment. We take great pride in knowing our students and making certain each one maximizes their academic and musical potential. We offer the Bachelor of Arts degree in music as well as the Bachelor of Arts in Music with Teacher Certification. Graduates of our program have become successful music educators throughout the country. Many graduates have pursued careers as professional performers while others have gained admission to some of the country’s most reputable graduate programs.
With an enrollment of nearly 8,000 students, Edinboro is large enough to provide a wide array of musical activities. Performance and ensemble experiences include large, small, specialized and unique organizations from Marching Band, Opera Workshop, Guitar Ensemble, Pipe Band, Jazz Combo, Woodwind Ensemble, and Brass Ensemble to traditional ensembles such as University Singers, Symphonic Wind Ensemble, University Orchestra, and JazzEnsemble. Our concert series and music workshops bring outstanding performers and clinicians from around the world to our campus.
Our faculty of 19 are artist-teachers of the highest quality with expertise in all instruments, voice, band, choral, jazz, orchestra, music education, theory, and history. Some of the faculty are members of the Erie Philharmonic and Erie Chamber Orchestras, and many are in demand as guest conductors, performers, adjudicators, and clinicians.
In the spring of 2008, the Music Department moved from Heather Hall into the Dr. William P. Alexander Music Center which contains studios, practice rooms, classroom, piano lab, listening library, and a recital hall. Our newly renovated Louis C. Cole Auditorium-Memorial Hall, serves as our primary performance facility. With seating for 850 andstate of the art sound, lighting, and acoustic treatments, this venue is outstanding for performers and concert patrons. The newly constructed attached rehearsal hall is used for ensemble rehearsal space and a classroom. The department also maintains a computer lab as well as a piano lab. In addition, we have classroom and rehearsal facilities in the new Arts and Sciences Center. Baron-Forness Library houses a collection of some 25,000 books on music, scores, recordings, and research materials, as well as excellent playback facilities for individual and group listening.
The Department of Music is active and proud of its role in the preparation of musicians and teachers. Our Bachelor of Arts in Music Teachers Certification program is accredited by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, and the National Association of Schools of Music.
