Audition Requirements

Auditioning for a college music program can be intimidating and make you a little nervous!  The most common question I receive is, “What should I play?”  I’ve listed some ideas below but you can feel free to pick something else.  I would like you to play a lyrical/melodic work that demonstrates good musical phrasing.  Also, I would like to hear you play a technical work that demonstrates good technique.  This could take the form of two separate, smaller works/etudes or one larger work.  Other important items – Be prepared!  All the notes and rhythms need to be mastered well enough to play well even when nervous!  Another great idea is weekly lessons.  It’s essential to take weekly lessons in high school to be successful in college.  Sort of common sense but not always the norm in our region.  If you have any questions, please contact me at 814.732.2647 or dburdick@edinboro.edu.  Good luck and I look forward to meeting you.  Dr. Daniel Burdick
