PMEA District 2 Band Festival

The Music Department is proud to host the PMEA District 2 Band Festival (February 10 - 12, 2010) and would like to welcome 160 select high school musicians and their band directors to the Edinboro University campus.  You will find information about the festival in the right column.  Information and links will be updated and added as necessary.

Guest Conductor - Darrin Thornton

Before returning to school full-time, Darrin Thornton taught at the elementary, middle and high school levels in the state of New York, served on the conducting faculties at the University of Missouri and SUNY-Fredonia, and has over 17 years administrative experience holding posts at the University of Missouri, SUNY-Fredonia and Penn State.  He currently remains active as a performing percussionist, conductor and adjudicator.

As a Doctoral Candidate in Music Education at Penn State, Thornton has research interests in enrollment management, teacher training and continued professional development, educational access, music outreach and adult music participation.  He has served as a graduate assistant with the Athletic Blue Bands and continues to teach music education methods courses.

Thornton holds a Bachelors of Science in Education from Northwestern University, a Masters in Education from Nationals-Louis University, a Masters in Music from the University of Missouri, and anticipates graduating with his PhD from Penn State in August of this year.  Darrin was born in Washington, D.C., and grew up mostly in Shaker Heights, OH (a neighboring suburb of Cleveland).  He currently resides in State College, PA, with his wife Linda, a professor at Penn State and daughter Layla, an energetic kindergarten hula-hoop diva.
