PERSONAL CARE ATTENDANT SERVICES FOR RESIDENT STUDENTS
Edinboro University prides itself on its long history of providing Personal Care services for students with disabilities. Currently, students who enroll in the university-provided Attendant Care Program are housed on the first floor of Rose Hall. There may be limited rooms available each semester. These services are made available and coordinated by a dynamic team of professionals who include a Program Nurse, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker and a Student Affairs professional who are all committed to student success within and outside of the classroom. Services are provided by personal care attendants who are employed by the university, including student personnel.
The scope of Attendant Care Services includes those activities of daily living with which students require assistance. The program is designed to assist students in developing the skills and knowledge to maximize their independence through learning to direct their care and to make responsible decisions regarding their needs. Among the activities of daily living for which assistance are provided are:
- Assistance with showering, dressing, grooming
- Assistance with laundry
- Personal Hygiene
- Room Cleaning
- Assistance with braces and orthotics
- Assistance with service animals
- Mobility, Transferring, Positioning and Range of Motion
- Assistance with health and wellness
All students are encouraged to meet with members of the program team upon admission to determine needs for attendant care and other services. Regarding housing, students must complete housing forms through the Residence Life and Housing Office and identify participation in the Attendant Care services to obtain rooms in Rose Hall. A room on the first floor of Rose Hall cannot be guaranteed. In the event all rooms are full, a wait list is established. Housing is done on a first contract-first housed basis.
