I. Victim Witness Juvenile Notification Advocate
Crime Victim Center of Erie County is looking to hire a Victim Witness Juvenile Notification Advocate to assist the Erie County Juvenile Probation Department with providing notification services to victims of juvenile crime in accordance with Juvenile Court Judges' Commission standards and subsequent new legislation.
Essential functions include providing crisis counseling, and support to crime victims, develop appropriate correspondence regarding case status and notification, assist in expeditious return of property, act as liaison between Victim Witness Services and the Juvenile Probation Department, and performing all other duties as assigned.
All applicants must have a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in the human services field (e.g. sociology, criminal justice, psychology, etc.), knowledge of the criminal justice system, be proficient in computer programs currently in use in the agency, and demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively in writing. Act 33 and 34 clearances are also required.

Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the CSU Director, the CSA is an entry level position in the District Attorney’s Office. This position is responsible for the identification, collection, preservation and documentation of evidence at a crime scene. The incumbent develops competency in the identification and collection of a variety of physical evidence such as blood, physiological fluids, hairs, fibers, fingerprints, cosmetics, glass, paints, explosive residue, arson residue, metals, soils, firearms, toolmarks, gunshot residue, serial number restoration, drugs of abuse, and other items of forensic interest. This position also testifies in court as to the collection method used and chain-of-custody of evidence. Incumbent shall be responsible for developing and implementing crime scene management training for all local law enforcement.
Duties:
-
Accepts evidence and assumes chain-of-custody for evidence collected at a crime scene.
-
May submit evidence to the FSL on behalf of municipalities within Allegheny County.
-
May submit evidence to the Northern Regional AFIS/Latent Print Unit.
-
Maintains a record of crime scene casework.
-
Prepares CSU and casework reports.
-
Conducts training sessions for local law enforcement.
-
Testifies in court on collection and documentation methods used in the course of his/her duties.
-
Performs other related duties as required or requested by the CSU Director.
-
Responds to crime scenes for photographic documentation, preservation and collection of various types of physical evidence.

Maintains a close working relationship with municipalities and assist Investigators with in-house processing of evidence.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Physical identification, collection, comparison, preservation, documentation and evaluation of crime scene evidence

Communicate effectively orally and in writing
