OVERVIEW
|
The Department of Professional Studies and program of Educational Leadership offers graduate programs, leading to a master of education degree in educational leadership. The Educational Leadership program also offers non-degree certification programs for the K-12 Principal, Superintendent Letter of Eligibility, IU Executive Director, Supervisor of Special Education, and various supervisor certifications of single curriculum areas. The Educational Leadership Programs of Edinboro University has been developed to be aligned with the program standards and guidelines prescribed by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) and the Educational Leadership Constituent Consortium (ELCC). The School of Education and its programs are accredited by the National Council Association for Teacher Education (NCATE) and the programs of Educational Leadership have received National Recognition from the ELCC. The Educational Leadership Program works to develop leaders that are able to meet the leadership standards set forth by the Inter State School Leaders Consortium (ISSLC). The faculty of the Educational Leadership program is working closely with PDE in the development of innovative leadership programs as well as the implementation of the 9 standards Pennsylvania Inspired Leaders (PIL). The programs in Educational Leadership use the cohort model for its offerings with a planned sequence of courses. This model allows candidates to develop a professional network of peers that is invaluable after completion of the program as well as providing support during the program. The master's degree is 30 credits which are completed in 5 semesters. The certification programs vary in length according to the background of the individual student. These programs also use the cohort model. Depending on the student, the length of time for completion could range from 2 semesters to 5 semesters. These programs are offered both online and face to face. The Educational Leadership faculty has over 250 years of experience in the K12 environment with over 100 of those years in various leadership positions. Our faculty has recent experience as Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, Director of Human Resources, Director of Curriculum, Director of Technology, Director of Special Education, Principal, Assistant Principal, Dean of Students, and Department Chair as well as being classroom teachers at every level. |
