College of Arts Humanities and Social Sciences

The College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences strives to fulfill the University’s Mission in a manner reflective of our diverse disciplines by providing excellent academic programs through instruction, student engagement, and the creation and application of scholarship to effectively meet the needs of our region.

The traditional role of the liberal arts is to prepare students to be successful contributors to their communities and responsible global citizens. Higher education is also seen by many as a path to a fulfilling career, which requires individuals who can think critically, solve problems creatively, work cooperatively in teams, and communicate well through the written and spoken word. The College is committed to imparting these skills not only to students who pursue degrees in the liberal arts and social sciences, but also to the many other students who take courses in the College on their way to degrees in other disciplines.

The College includes a School of Visual and Performing Arts, comprised of the Art and Music Departments, which recognizes the importance of the arts at Edinboro University and creates a separate identity. The focus is on program and enrollment growth, within the parameters of the University-wide focus on excellence and student success.


College of Science and Health Professions

The College of Science and Health Professions provides a focus on Edinboro University’s commitment to the growth of STEM (science/technology/engineering/mathematics) programs, as well as health and allied health professions. In addition to the University-wide emphasis on excellence and student success, the programs in this College highlight the University’s commitment to these critical growth areas.

The College provides numerous options for study in the hard and exact sciences: biology, chemistry, geosciences, physics, mathematics and environmental studies. Applied programs include computer science, psychology, nursing, social work, and speech and hearing sciences. Living-learning communities, internship opportunities, faculty-student travel and research broaden the student experience beyond the classroom.

The College is committed to creating opportunities for intellectual and personal growth, and responding to the evolving needs of the broader community.


School of Business

The School of Business offers quality associate and baccalaureate degree programs in business administration, both of which are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). Areas of focus within business available for specialization include accounting and forensic accounting, financial services, management information systems, and marketing. For those wishing a social science program focused on the development of conceptual and analytical thinking, the school also offers a bachelor’s degree in economics . The school emphasizes quality teaching and quality student advising. Special opportunities within the school include a Mentoring Program where students are matched with a business professional to obtain one-on-one feedback on résumé and interviewing skills, and to gain practical insights into their field of study.


School of Education

The School of Education prepares highly qualified professionals with associate, baccalaureate, and master’s degrees and certifications in Teacher Education, Educational Psychology, School Psychology, Counseling, Reading Specialist, Educational Leadership, and the Health and Physical Education fields. Students are required to complete prescribed general education and/or content specific coursework and pre-professional experiences. All programs in the School of Education meet state guidelines, and are accredited by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) and by, the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).


School of Graduate Studies

Edinboro University’s School of Graduate Studies and Research offers 16 master’s degree programs, post baccalaureate teacher certification in 24 content areas, and a range of post master’s programs leading to certification and/or licensure. Many of these regionally and nationally accredited programs are also available online.
