Financial Aid Appeals and Reinstatements

Appeals

Students who wish to appeal the suspension of financial aid eligibility based on mitigating circumstances (e.g. severe illness, death of close family member, severe injury, other traumatic experiences) may do so by submitting a Satisfactory Academic Progress Appeal Form and supporting documentation to the Assistant Vice President for Financial Aid within ten (10) days of the date of notification that aid has been cancelled.

All Satisfactory Academic Progress Appeals must:

  • Identify the mitigating circumstances that led to SAP not being maintained.
  • include/attached supporting documentation, e.g. statement from the doctor, death notice, etc.
  • Must be signed by the student.
  • Include your E.U.P. identification number, or Social Security number, and current address.
  • Must be legible.

The Assistant Vice President for Financial Aid will notify the student of the decision to reinstate or deny aid. If approved, conditions may apply and an academic plan form must be submitted to the student's academic advisor to be completed and submitted to the Financial Aid Office by the advisor. If the conditions are not satisfied, aid may be denied in a subsequent term. As described in the federal regulations, all decisions at this point are final. All initial and subsequent appeals, supporting documentation and corrective plans of action must be received within ten (10) days of notice. The committee will not review incomplete and/or partial appeals. All documentation is retained by the Office of Student Financial Support and Services for audit purposes.

Reinstatement of Financial Aid

Aid may be reinstated on a probationary status by meeting the requirements for SAP or by an approved appeal. If aid is reinstated, a probationary status will remain in effect. A period of non-enrollment does not reinstate aid eligibility.

Reinstatements may also be made when the student has a successful term of meeting the standards as an undergraduate or graduate student.
