Financial Aid Tips

FINANCIAL AID TIPS

  • Apply early- complete and mail the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by required filing date.  EUP has a preferred filing date of March 15th.   Students who meet the preferred filing date will receive full consideration of University Scholarships, Federal SEOG, Federal Perkins, Federal Work Study and discretionary scholarships and grants.  PHEAA’s deadline is May 1st.  Information must be received from the federal processor by this date to be considered for a PHEAA Grant.

  • You must reapply for aid each year.  Aid received one year may not be the aid received in subsequent years.

  • Apply for a federal pin number and use this pin to sign FAFSA when filing online and making corrections.  Students applying on line should complete the Preapplication Worksheet instead of the FAFSA.  The Preapplication worksheet organizes entry items in the same format as the web site.  The pin can also be used to sign promissory notes for Federal Stafford Loans.  For dependent students, parents should also apply for a pin to sign the FAFSA or the parent loan promissory note electronically.

  • Respond to all inquires from PHEAA and EUP’s Financial Aid Office.

  • Inform EUP’s Financial Aid Office of financial assistance received from other sources.  (Note:  awards may be adjusted to prevent overawards and/or to meet program requirements.)  (Graduate Assistantships, EUP Tuition Waivers, Chapter 30 Veterans benefits, etc.)

  • Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress as required for federal financial aid recipients: (Note: undergraduates must maintain a 2.00 minimum QPA and complete 75% of all course work enrolled.  Graduates must maintain a 3.00 minimum QPA and complete 80% of all coursework.  For both undergraduate and graduates all withdrawals, incomplete, and failures are used as attempts for financial aid purposes.  See the web site for complete SAP Policy.  PHEAA Grant recipients must complete 24 credits if full time awards are given.

  • Students who completely withdraw from the University before 60% of the term is over, will be required to repay a prorated amount of any federal aid including loans.

  • Read your emails- you are informed of important information through your assigned email address.  Students may forward these emails to an account they read more frequently.

  • Keep abreast of your student account and required documents via S.C.O.T.S.

  • First time borrowers will have Stafford loan disbursements delayed 30 days the first semester of enrollment.  Students will need to make financial arrangements accordingly.  Books may be charged for students who are awarded adequate aid.

  • Students enrolled in a single term (fall only, spring only, all summer terms will receive the first half of their Stafford loan at the beginning of the semester and the remaining half midway through the semester.  These students will need to make financial arrangements accordingly.
