Financial Aid Probation/ Suspension

FINANCIAL AID PROBATION/SUSPENSION

Financial Aid Probation

Any student who fails to meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) requirements after one semester of financial aid warning will be placed on fianncial aid probation.

A student must submit an appeal based on circumstances beyond the student's control (example: death in the immediate family or a family illness).  Once the appeal is received by the Financial Aid Office, an Academic Plan will be sent to the student’s Edinboro email for review by the student and their advisor (student and advisor signature is required on the Academic Plan form). The Academic Plan must then be returned to the Financial Aid Office for completion of the appeal process.  Failure to meet the requirements will result in loss of federal financial aid eligibility.

Students who are on probation are encouraged to seek academic and/or personal counseling. Counseling services can provide the student with additional support, which may help alleviate obstacles that hinder satisfactory academic progress. Students on probation are further encouraged to consult with a financial aid counselor prior to withdrawing from any classes or if midterm grades are failures.

 Financial Aid Suspension

Students who fail to meet the requirements of probation are placed on Financial Aid Suspension.    Students whose financial aid has been suspended are not eligible to receive federal student aid. This includes: Federal Pell Grants, Academic Competitiveness Grants, National SMART Grants, Federal SEOG, Federal Perkins Loans, Federal Nursing Loans, Federal Stafford Loans and Federal Plus Loans. Other programs may be effected if the federal standards for progress is required.
