Pogue Student Center Climbing Gym
Campus Recreation and CORE offer the use of the university’s rock climbing gym to all students, alumni, and community members (with a membership). Located on the Fitness Level of the Pogue Student Center, the climbing gym offers climbers of any skill level the opportunity to boulder (free climb) or top rope (belay/be harnessed in). Any and all equipment needed for climbing is available to rent, free of charge. The climbing gym also houses a 25ft climbing rope that provides the ultimate test of ability and endurance.
For any non-student interested in the climbing gym, Climbing Wall Memberships are available for purchase. Passes are $30 per semester and can only be used when school is in session and when the climbing gym is open. Anyone 18 years or older is eligible to purchase a pass. Upcoming Climbing Events
Route of the Week Challenge
During the Fall 2014 semester, CORE hosted the first ever Route of the Week Climbing Challenge. Each week, the CORE staff designated a problem (route) as that week’s Route of the Week. Participants were challenged to come in once a week and climb that week’s problem. All those that came in every week of the challenge (7 weeks) and completed the Route of the Week earned a Route of the Week t-shirt at the end of the semester. Stop into the climbing gym for more information on the spring semester’s Route of the Week Challenge!
University Bouldering Series
Each spring, a series of bouldering competitions is held at various universities in the Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia area. While there are prizes for the top climbers of the day, the goal of these competitions is more about fun and pushing your personal limits than they are about winning. As such, these comps are designed for beginner and expert climbers alike. Stop into the climbing gym for more information and to sign up for these great competitions!
