Are You Eligible to Vote?
To register to vote in Pennsylvania, you must be:
- A citizen of the United States for at least one month before the next primary, special, municipal, or general election.
- A resident of Pennsylvania and the election district in which you want to register and vote for at least 30 days before the next primary, special, municipal, or general election.
- At least 18 years of age on or before the day of the next primary, special, municipal, or general election.
Once you have registered to vote, you are not required to register again unless you change your residence, name, or political party affiliation.
Please note that any intentional false statement made on an application for voter registration constitutes perjury and is punishable by law.
Eligibility for Primary Elections
A primary election is an election in which a political party nominates its candidates for an upcoming general election. The rules for voting in primary elections vary from state to state. In Pennsylvania:
- You must be registered and enrolled in a political party to vote in that party's primary.
- All registered voters are entitled to vote on Constitutional amendments, ballot questions and in all special elections that might be held at the same time as a primary election.

September 18, 2012: Constitution Day Celebration. For more information, click here
September 24-28, 2012: "Citizenship Week": Class discussions with/about the importance of voting. Voter registration forms are available in the Campus Life Office.
October 1-5, 2012: SGA Voter Registration Drive in Pogue Student Center: The Student Government Association (SGA) and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., will collect voter registration forms in the Pogue Student Center and campus dining halls. Students may vote locally (Edinboro) if they list a local (campus/off-campus) address. (For voter registration purposes, a post office box is not an acceptable address.) As a courtesy, completed voter registration forms will be mailed to the appropriate county voter registration office.
October 6, 2012: Last day to register to Vote!
October 7, 2012: UVE to perform at "Rock the Vote" at East High School at 5PM.
October 30, 2012: Absentee Ballot Applications are due by 5PM to Voter Registration Office (in your residence area)
November 2, 2012: Absentee Ballots due in election office (in your area of residence) by 5PM
November 6, 2012 - Election Day! The SGA will provide transportation to and from the local (Edinboro) polling sites. Students who wish to vote locally at the Edinboro Volunteer Fire Department or (across the street) at the Borough of Edinboro Municipal Building MUST have a valid ID, with a local address and expiration date. An Edinboro University ID will only work if it has an expiration date on the card. If your current University ID does not have an expiration date, it can be exchanged (free of charge) at the University ID Office in Van Houten Dining Hall.
