Please note that if you have submitted a paper application & money order to the Office of Student Teaching/Certification and your application does not appear in the current TCS (Teacher Certification System); you must ALSO complete an online application after December 19, 2011, in the new TIMS (Teacher Information Management System).  December 19, 2011, is the go LIVE date for the new system through PDE, please be sure to check their web site above (TIMS) for any changes to this date.

At this time students must complete BOTH the paper application and the TIMS application.  Please continue to submit the paper application as indicated below.

PENNSYLVANIA CERTIFICATION
APPLICATION & PROCEDURE

It is recommended that students apply for certification during the first half of their last semester to provide an opportunity for a preliminary review by the certification office.  If Praxis testing is not complete, please indicate when scores will be received.  Students receiving dual certification should only complete one certification code for Section II (PDE Form 338G) and add a post-it note requesting the second area of certification.  The office will include that information in Section II, #4 of PDE Form 338C.

** A $100.00 "U.S." MONEY ORDER PAYABLE TO THE COMMONWEALTH OF PENNSYLVANIA MUST ACCOMPANY THE APPLICATION.

** IF YOU CURRENTLY HOLD PENNSYLVANIA CERTIFICATION YOU DO NOT NEED THE HEALTH CERTIFICATE SECTION III (PDE 338G) COMPLETED AND YOU MUST ENCLOSE A COPY OF YOUR CURRENT CERTIFICATION WITH YOUR APPLICATION.

Please return both the PDE 338G form, the copy of your current certification (if you are certified in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania), and the  money order made payable to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to:

Upon receipt of  a completed application and the verification of the below information, the Dean of Education/Certification Officer  will then make recommendation for certification to the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE):

  • all requirements have been met;
  • passing Praxis score report label has been received directly from ETS (please note that PDE does not recognize test scores over ten years old);
  • final grades (if completing a non-degree certification program);
  • official posting of your degree


It takes approximately 3-4 weeks to verify all information at the close of each semester.  Letters verifying a recommendation for certification will be automatically mailed to the applicant at the address provided on the certification application.  Applications will then be submitted to PDE and documentation of certification from PDE should be received by the student in approximately 8-10 weeks (notification from PDE will be sent directly to the student at the address indicated on the application).
