Dr. Alan Biel is the Dean of the Edinboro University School of Graduate Studies and Research. In this position, he directs Edinboro University’s successful graduate studies program of nearly 2,000 students, both on campus and online.
Dr. Biel came to Edinboro University in 2011 with a diverse academic background of nearly 30 years in higher education, most recently as the Dean for Research and STEM Initiatives at Lincoln Memorial University. Dr. Biel brings extensive experience in teaching, research and administration to his position at Edinboro University, having also taught at Tulane University, Louisiana State University, Ross University School of Medicine and the DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine, Lincoln Memorial University.
Dr. Biel earned a B.S. in Microbiology at the University of Iowa and a Ph.D. in Biology from Purdue University; he also spent two years as a postdoctoral student in Biochemistry at St. Louis University. He has been awarded more than $800,000 in grants to support biological and biomedical research. His extensive research include studies published in the Journal of Bacteriology and Plant Physiology.
Dr. Biel has served as a reviewer for the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation, and is a member of the International Association of Medical Science Educators.
