Dr. Philip Ginnetti

Dr. Philip E. Ginnetti became Edinboro University's Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs on July 1, 2010. As the top academic official, he is responsible for oversight of all Edinboro University schools and related academic activities in coordination with the Office of the President. Dr. Ginnetti directs all undergraduate and graduate instructional programs and will foster academic partnerships between the University and other academic institutions. Additionally, he provides leadership in the globalization of University curricula.

The provost’s office oversees the attainment of accreditations and other national academic recognitions. The office also ensures the availability and quality of academic support systems to address the developmental needs of Edinboro students. In the absence of the president, Dr. Ginnetti will serve as University Chief Administrative Officer.

Dr. Ginnetti earned both a bachelor’s degree (elementary education) and master’s degree (education) from Youngstown State University, and a doctorate (elementary education curriculum) from the University of Akron.

A majority of Dr. Ginnetti's academic career was spent at his alma mater, beginning in 1985 when he joined Youngstown State University as adjunct faculty. He held several positions at the institution, including chairperson of the Department of Teacher Education and assistant dean of the Beeghly College of Education, and was dean of the College and professor in the Department of Teacher Education for eight years.

As dean, he developed a strong record of achievement in curriculum development. During his tenure he increased grant production in the College and established a process used by the University to recruit and hire diverse faculty and staff. His reorganization of the College resulted in the development of a school psychologist program, revamped teacher education masters programs and successful National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education reaccreditation.  Additionally, he was responsible for strategic planning and budget oversight of the College and represented the institution on University, statewide and national committees and accreditation teams.

His commitment to outreach and partnership development resulted in the creation of an Early College High School with the Youngstown City School District, which received an “excellent” rating from the Ohio Department of Education and was ranked as one of the best 100 schools in the United States by U.S. News and World Report. He also established a Professional Development School for staff working in the Liberty Local School District in Youngstown, Ohio.
