          Professional Staff



          The Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) staff at the Ghering Health and Wellness Center at Edinboro University consists of caring faculty who are licensed psychologists and mental health professionals.

          The CAPS staff has one thing in common: a determination to get you back on track to enjoying life. The staff consists of licensed psychologists and mental health professionals who provide counseling for personal, social, and emotional concerns, as well as brief psychotherapy, crisis intervention, group programs, personal development opportunities, prevention and outreach services, psychological assessment and referrals.

          Michael Bucell, Ph.D.

          Psychologist and Director of CAPS

          Dr. Michael Bucell received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Kent State University in 1979. He has enjoyed counseling college students for over thirty years and has also worked in a community mental health center. His professional interests include psychological assessment, treatment of depression and anxiety, and anger management. His favorite pastimes are playing golf, time at the beach, and finding great restaurants.

          Mary Wolf, Psy. D.

          Psychologist

          Dr. Mary Wolf is a licensed psychologist who earned a doctorate in clinical psychology from Widener University in 1994. After 20 years of employment at Edinboro University, she is still passionate about counseling college students. Her professional interests include depression, grief/loss, students’ adjustment/ transition to college and eating disorders. She enjoys nature, red rock mountains, travel, fitness, and spending time with her pet dog, Abby, who is a certified therapy dog. 

          Alexis J. Mustin, MSW, LSW

          Licensed Social Worker

          Lexie Mustin received her MSW from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania in 2005 and is a licensed Social Worker. Her professional interests include trauma, grief/loss, depression, anxiety and couples issues. Her personal interests include photography, nature, cooking, antiquing, travel, history and the beach. She is the proud mother of three children and a little dog named “Jett.”

          Paul Kovacs, Ph.D.

          Licensed Professional Counselor

          Dr. Kovacs earned his Ph.D. in psychology from Union University and Institute and M.A. in Rehabilitation Counseling from Edinboro University. He is a PA licensed professional counselor and also a diplomate of the American Psychotherapy Association. He has counseled students and taught at the higher education level for over twenty years. His professional interests include mood and anxiety disorders, personality disorders, relationship problems and forensic issues. He enjoys travel, good food, history and relaxation.

          Maria G. Day, M.S., LPC

          Licensed Professional Counselor

          Maria received her M.S. degree from Gannon University. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and trained EMDR therapist.  She has been in private practice since 1999.  Her professional interests include working with trauma, depression, anxiety and adjustment issues.  She enjoys weekends with family and friends, exploring new places and is a Reiki Master.
