NewFound Road

Concert 7:30 pm

"...NewFound Road is a revelation - an innovative template of how bluegrass can remain thrilling and relevant by fusing the best of the past to a clear vision of what is essential today."
~ Raleigh News & Observer

One of the most exciting new bands to emerge on the national bluegrass scene in the new millennium, NewFound Road specializes in a powerfully streamlined sound delivered with heartfelt honesty and passion. The bands' three equally capable, yet distinct vocalists, who are also formidable instrumentalists and songwriters, ensure that each song is executed with both emotion and precision- be it a bluesy solo vocal, soaring three part harmony or a solemn a capella gospel treatment. Instrumentally, NewFound Road is a role model for the modern self-contained bluegrass ensemble, providing both sympathetic accompaniment and thrilling, hard-driving solos. NewFound Road is contemporary bluegrass at its most soulful and sincere.

“My music always starts off with jazz, but can end up in any number of places because of all my different influences. I guess I value the freedom to explore as much as the discipline of tradition.”
~Sachal Vasandani

"This man is really amazing!" With a "golden voice" and an ability to execute complex ideas with subtlety and nuance, "amazing" echoes the general reaction to Sachal Vasandani, a major new talent on the music scene. "Sachal Vasandani's singing reveals emotion and intellect," says Wynton Marsalis, Artistic Director of Jazz at Lincoln Center. "Versed in the blues, standards, and modern jazz... his sound is consistent and unique.”

With a flair for infusing the familiar with a fresh, original sensibility entirely his own, Vasandani has an ability to write songs of a diverse and popular style. He has captured the attention of the jazz world over the past few years and is quickly climbing towards the top of the music scene.
