DESCRIPTION:On June 5, 2012, residents of northwest Pennsylvania will have the opportunity to witness an astronomical event that will not occur again for 105 years! Venus will cross in front of the disc of the sun on June 5. Join Presque Isle State Park, Edinboro University Planetarium and Erie Planetarium as we share this stellar event. In addition, at 4:00 p.m. in room 112 of the Tom Ridge Environmental Center, Dr. David Hurd, Planetarium Director, Edinboro University, will detail the Venus Transit and will be introducing a guest speaker from England - Dr. Halley - who will share with us the historical significance of a Venus Transit. After the lecture, participants can drive out to Beach 7 to witness this significant event. The presentation is free and open to the public. DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday, June 20, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., the Concert Band of Northwest Pennsylvania will play the first concert of its 2012 summer season in front of the Cole Auditorium. The theme of the concert will be "An Evening Down Under: Music of Australia and New Zealand."&nbsp;Among the composers represented will be Percy Grainger and John Philip Sousa. Those attending are requested to bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating. The concert is free and open to the public.&nbsp; No reservations are required. The band is sponsored by Edinboro's Department of Music.
