2nd floor mezzanine area, Baron-Forness Library

During the month of February the library will feature an extensive display of antique valentines dating from the early 1900s, including some very elaborate examples. These valentines were presented to teachers by their students. They were given to relatives of Loralyn Whitney, acquisitions librarian, who were school teachers in rural Ohio during the early years of the past century. The recipients included two great-aunts who were elementary teachers in Streetsboro, Ohio and her grandfather, Arthur Lee Whitney, a school principle and an Edinboro Normal School graduate, class of 1909. The display will also feature some personal effects including his school bell and inkwell, and lace collars and spectacles worn by the women in the classroom. The public is invited to view this display.
