Classes and activities canceled, 11 p.m. Monday until 6 a.m. Wednesday


All Edinboro University classes and student activities are canceled, effective from 11 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, until 6 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, at the Edinboro campus, the Erie and Meadville locations, and other off-campus locations where classes are held.

University students and teaching faculty should not report to class on Tuesday. Student employees, including graduate assistants, should not report to work unless directed otherwise by their supervisors. All other employees should report to work according to their regular schedules or as indicated by their supervisors. All buildings and offices will remain open.

This action is being taken because of the threat posed to students walking or using wheelchairs as they move between classes  in the extreme cold and dangerous wind chill expected during the cancellation period. All members of the University community are urged to consider these dangers serious and to dress warmly and take other necessary precautions.

 All essential student services will be available, including:

- Residence Hall and Residence Life services, including those for students in the Attendant Care Program

- Food service, including Van Houten Dining Hall, Pogue Student Center and Rose Hall

- Ghering Health Center

- University Police

- Van service for students with disabilities

Students are encouraged to remain indoors except when necessary for dining or to reach other vital services. When you must venture outdoors, dress warmly, including wearing gloves and hats and covering all exposed skin, such as with scarves. 

Employees also are urged to dress appropriately and take other precautions for safe work and travel in the extreme cold. All University essential personnel, as defined in Policy D002, must report to work. Others should use their discretion, and supervisors are expected to honor reasonable requests of employees to arrive late or to leave early because of inclement weather.

In the event that employees cannot safely travel to campus or there are school closings that require alternate childcare arrangements, employees should notify their supervisors and use paid time off for any absences. The usual preapproval requirement is temporarily suspended.
