Edinboro University’s Community Music School offers ‘Pre-Twinkle’ violin and lessons for ages05/16/2014
Highlighted by new “Pre-Twinkle Suzuki” introductory violin classes for children just beginning to explore music, Edinboro University’s Community Music School summer programming gets under way June 2.
No instrument is required for the Pre-Twinkle Suzuki classes, which will be offered in two sessions, June 2-23 and July 7-28, at the Porreco College campus, 2951 W. 38th St., Erie. The classes meet on Mondays from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Tuition is $40 per four-week session.
Community Music School Director LeAnne Wistrom said the new class, taught by Suzuki violin instructor Maria Lyon, is a great way for parents to learn about the Suzuki method and for students age 5 and older to be introduced to the violin. Students will make box violins and learn some of the basics of violin playing.
Registration also is being accepted for summer lessons for all ages at both Porreco College in Erie and the main campus in Edinboro. Private instruction in guitar, banjo, mandolin, piano, voice, cello, violin, flute, clarinet, saxophone, brass and percussion is available. Each student will design her or his own lesson package to suit summer schedules.
The summer session continues through Aug. 29.
