Power issues cause phone, Internet outages07/07/2013
Low voltage in electrical power being supplied to the Edinboro campus caused university phones to be out of service through much of the evening Saturday and Internet service to remain unavailable overnight.
As of midday Sunday, phone and Internet services were functioning, though some parts of campus were operating on generators because electrical voltage from Penelec continued to be intermittently low. The Banner database server was shut down to protect it until the power issues are corrected, a spokesperson for University Technology & Communications said.
Edinboro University has backup power supplies and automatic switching equipment, but those did not prevent computer servers from being taken out of service by the power disruption on Saturday. Phone service was restored late in the evening, but damage to the Internet router required overnight shipment of parts that kept the University website offline and email unavailable until Sunday morning.
Students, faculty and staff who have continued technical issues should contact the Technology Help Center at 732-2111. The center is open Sunday from 1 to 8 p.m. and Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
