Edinboro University will ‘Stuff the Bus’ with donated needed supplies for area schools10/31/2012
EDINBORO, Pa. – One of the significant events leading up to the November 9 inauguration of Dr. Julie E. Wollman as Edinboro University’s 17th president begins Thursday when the University attempts to fill an entire EMTA bus with donated supplies for area schools.
To celebrate Dr. Wollman’s lifelong commitment to education, the University’s Community Outreach Center and School of Education have joined with Erie Metropolitan Transit Authority, McDonald’s Restaurant, WJET 24, FOX 66, and yourErie.com to “Stuff the Bus with School Supplies.”
The Erie Metropolitan Transit Authority bus, clearly marked with Edinboro insignias and logos, will be parked at the McDonald’s at 2065 Interchange Road, near the Millcreek Mall, Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. to receive donations of school supplies or cash to be used to purchase supplies.
McDonald’s is offering food coupons to the first 700 people who stop by the bus to donate on Thursday.
In addition, YourErie.com is accepting online entries for a prize drawing to help promote the Stuff the Bus collection. Prizes include a Kindle e-book reader from WJET24, Fox 66 and YourErie.com, a $100 Fighting Scots prize pack of passes and merchandise, and10 certificates for Extra Value Meals from McDonald’s.
Registration for the drawing is at YourErie.com. Donating supplies or attending the collection at McDonald’s is not required.
The bus moves on Monday to the Edinboro University campus, where it will be parked near the Frank G. Pogue Student Center November 5, 6 and 7 to receive daily donations from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“This is a way for the entire community to celebrate Dr. Wollman’s inauguration by giving to local schools that have been hit hard by budget cuts in recent years,” said Gibson. “All supplies collected will be distributed to schools in Erie County.”
Supplies needed include one-inch and two-inch binders, two-pocket folders, highlighters, copy paper, notebook paper, Post-it pads, soft-cover composition books, colored pencils, stickers, tissues, anti-bacterial hand sanitizer, three by five inch index cards, Crayola markers and crayons, Scotch tape, spiral theme notebooks, No. 2 pencils, pencil top erasers, ink pens, and new children's socks, hats, gloves and sweatpants. Check should be made payable to “Edinboro University” and mailed to Community Outreach, 237 Pogue Student Center, Edinboro, PA 16444.
