University named 'Military Friendly School'

EDINBORO., Pa. - Edinboro University has been named a "Military Friendly School" by G.I. Jobs, a nationally-celebrated veteran-owned magazine and website that provides education, transition assistance, and job opportunities for military personnel.  The annual rankings honor the top 15 percent of colleges, universities, and trade schools doing the most to recruit and retain America's veterans as students.

The publication polled more than 7,000 schools nationwide to compile its list.

"I think that this designation is a way to help veterans choose a school where there may be services beneficial to them," said Bob McConnell, director of the Office for Students with Disabilities at Edinboro.  "We have designated individuals who will assist veterans with different things. We have someone who will help with forms and paperwork, financial aid, transfer credit, disability services, and related assistance."

Edinboro University is renowned for the services provided by its Office for Students with Disabilities, and McConnell feels these services may have secured Edinboro's place on the G.I. Jobs Military Friendly campuses list.

"I think we were included because of the services for veterans with disabilities and our ability to provide the necessary support services they need to attend and be successful at the University," McConnell said.

Edinboro's disability services include personal care attendants in the residence halls, van transportation, wheelchair maintenance, an academic aide system, learning disability support services, a tactile laboratory for students with visual impairments, and much more.  For more information on the Office for Students with Disabilities and its services, visit http://www.edinboro.edu/departments/osd/index.dot.
