Edinboro University's enrollment increase #1 in PASSHE

EDINBORO, Pa. - In addition to surpassing the all-time record for enrollment in the institution's 152-year history, Edinboro University's enrollment increase of 8 percent over last year is the largest increase of all 14 schools in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE).

Edinboro's fall 2009 freeze numbers reveal a total enrollment of 8,287 students, an increase of 616 students compared to last year's freeze numbers.

This fall, PASSHE experienced the largest total enrollment increase in its more than 26-year history, with nearly 117,000 students taking classes at the 14 universities - a 3.85 percent increase. This marks the 13th consecutive year of higher enrollment and the eighth year in a row of record enrollment for PASSHE, solidifying its place as the largest provider of higher education in the Commonwealth.

"Affordable post-secondary education is more critical than ever," said Edinboro University President Dr. Jeremy D. Brown. "Students and parents appreciate that we can provide the students of the Commonwealth with excellent and affordable education." Recently, U.S. News and World Report ranked Edinboro fourth in the north region among universities offering undergraduate and master's degree programs for students who graduated with least amount of debt.

Ranked second in percentage increase from a PASSHE institution is Bloomsburg University, which saw an increase of 7.42 percent. Ranked third is California University, with a 3.85 percent increase.

"Because of the hard work and dedication of faculty and staff at Edinboro University, we are not only making great things happen here on campus, but we are making great things happen for the entire PASSHE system," said Brown.
