Edinboro’s UPB named Organization of the Year at APCA northeast regional conference10/28/2013
Edinboro University’s University Programming Board (UPB) was recently recognized at the Northeast Campus Events Planning Conference of the Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities (APCA) as its Organization of the Year.
The event was held in Syracuse, N.Y., on Oct. 12.
“To me the award is a direct representation of the hard work and enthusiasm that is demonstrated on a daily basis from the University Programming Board staff,” said David Goodwill, coordinator of Campus Programs and Recreation. “The board works hard to ensure that students have a wide range of activities to participate in while they are not in the classroom. They conduct events such as open mic nights, comedy shows, bus trips, a weekly movie series, bingo nights and more.”
UPB was nominated for the prize by its graduate assistant, Abby Trypus, and was voted on by all agencies that work with APCA. UPB’s Organization of the Year win at the northeast regional conference provides it an automatic nomination for the APCA national award, which will be handed out in March in Atlanta.
“I feel this means that the students are going above and beyond what we are asking of them. I think they grasp the understanding of what it takes to put on quality events. They are motivating their peers to come out and attend the events, which directly helps make a stronger campus community,” Goodwill said. “And this looks good for all areas involved. Campus Life, Student Affairs and the University as a whole are stronger when students such as these step up and demonstrate leadership.”
APCA is a national campus activities organization that services the needs of campus events planning departments, student governments, leadership development programs and other campus organizations throughout the United States. Its mission is to promote campus engagement through quality educational experiences, affordable entertainment and community service initiatives.
