Edinboro University to hold annual ‘Will Walk for Food and Water’ service event10/08/2013
Edinboro University freshmen, along with upperclassmen, faculty and staff, will walk to do their part in wiping out hunger during the University’s annual freshman service event on Tuesday, Oct. 22.
The “Will Walk for Food” event is held annually to raise awareness about local hunger and poverty issues. However, this year’s walk hopes to also shine a much-needed light on the scarcity of clean drinking water in parts of the world.
Renamed “Will Walk for Food and Water,” the service event will be held during the freshman Common Hour from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m., a time when first-year students meet to participate in departmental and University events.
The first 200 student participants will receive T-shirts. Walkers and volunteers are asked to bring a nonperishable food item or make at least a $1 donation, with all proceeds benefiting the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest Pennsylvania and Walk4Wells.
Participants will meet outside McComb Fieldhouse to sign in, drop off their donations and pick up their T-shirts for the campus route walk.
“Will Walk for Food and Water” will take place rain or shine. Participants are encouraged to dress according to weather conditions.
