Edinboro University’s Presidential Scholarship Gala to honor Erie community leader Virginia McGarvey
EDINBORO, Pa. – Edinboro University’s annual Presidential Scholarship Gala, set for tonight at Erie’s Ambassador Banquet and Conference Center, will honor University Trustee and longtime community leader Virginia McGarvey.
The black tie-optional celebration not only provides a cocktail reception, gourmet dinner, dancing and Scottish celebration, but the entire evening is conducted in the name of raising funds for Edinboro’s honors student scholarships.
Beginning at 6 p.m. with a reception hosted by President Jeremy Brown and his wife, Rebeca Acuña, the 7 p.m. dinner program will be co-MC’d by WJET News Director Lou Baxter and Saint Vincent Health Center Media Specialist Cyndy Patton, both proud graduates of Edinboro University.
Besides her involvement in many Erie area community non-profit organizations, Mrs. McGarvey has been a member of Edinboro’s Council of Trustees for nine years and has contributed her leadership skills to the successful governance of the University.
“It is fitting that we honor Ginny tonight, not only for her many years of service to our community, but also for her dedication to Edinboro University,” said President Brown.
The annual event benefits the President Jeremy D. Brown Honors Scholarship, which provides awards to students enrolled in Edinboro University’s Honors Program. The Honors Program seeks to nurture and challenge Edinboro’s most gifted and talented students through innovative teaching methods and programming.
During the three years that this event has been held, combined with the University’s springtime scholarship luncheon, more than $1 million has been raised for Edinboro students.
